Dr. Ashira Blazer is a native of Dallas, TX, where she grew up. She attended the University of Houston, where she spent time working with Dr. Amy Sater on the effect of retinoic acid on limb regeneration in Xenopus. She graduated from the University of Houston Magna Cum Laude and Phi Kappa Phi, and received the Arete Award for Outstanding Honors College Graduate. She then went on to attend medical school at Baylor College of Medicine, where she was received the Baylor Merit Scholarship. She proceeded on to do her internal medicine residency at Vanderbilt University. While at Vanderbilt, Ashira served as the President of the Minority Housestaff Committee for Academic and Medical Achievement, and received the Levi Watkins Award for her commitment to diversity in medicine. Among her hobbies are painting and drawing, the alto sax, yoga and cooking.
